— Horace Everett Martin, Jr., ("Slim") was born on Nov. 8, 1923, in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Horace Everett and Mary (Miller) Martin. Everett passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2014, at his home, at the age of 90 years.
Everett grew up in Chickasha and graduated from St. Joseph's Academy. Everett was an Army veteran and served in World War II.
In 1952 he entered into the insurance business and in 1966, he partnered with Clark Pool to form Pool-Martin Insurance Agency, Inc., retiring in 1991. Everett represented the Silvey Companies General Accident Insurance, for many years, and was one of their most respected agents. Everett was a charter member of the President's Club, a Pioneer and Builder of New American Life in Oklahoma. Everett believed in life insurance as an asset to protect your family and he wanted all of the residents of Grady County to benefit from a life insurance policy.
Everett married Virginia Katherine Beall on October 11, 1948, in Guymon, OK, and together they raised four children, Mark, Dale, Holly and Neil.
Everett enjoyed many things including playing the guitar with his buddies, Jack Stidham, Harley Day, Wes Langford, and with his son's, Dale and Neil. Everett studied to become a pilot in his 40's and had a great time buying and selling small airplanes and taking trips to pick up an airplane he had purchased from anywhere in the U.S. Everett was a knowledgeable student of the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the stock market became his hobby and passion upon retirement. His children and grandchildren were his best students whether they wanted to learn about the stock market or not . . . and he loved the ride of the market, up, down and in between! It was just plain fun for Dad.
Everett was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia on January 30, 1991; his son, Neil Wade Martin on May 7, 1981, and his infant brother, Raymond.
