Raymond L. Dillard

— Raymond L. Dillard

Feb 16th 1921 to Feb 5th 2014.

A proud member of the Choctaw tribe, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side in the early morning just short of his 93rd birthday.  He was predeceased by his brother Dank, sister Mozelle, first wife Oleta and second wife Daphne, and son Ricky.

Grandpa Ray worked at Kaiser Steel for over 40 years and took a lot of pride in the work he did and made many lifelong friends through his work.  In retirement he and his wife traveled and enjoyed antiquing and meeting people.

He had a close bond with his siblings and they enjoyed spending time together and had many memorable outings.  For the past four years he resided in Lakeport, CA with his daughter Sue.  In that time he enjoyed woodworking and crafts in his shop, gardening, and most of all enjoyed meeting new people and making friends.  He loved to “cut-up” and tell a good joke, and will be dearly missed and never forgotten by his family and legions of friends.

He is survived by his son Don (Carolyn), daughters Sue and Judy (Danny), step-son Tom (Dottie), sisters Otsie Horne and Nadine Lewis and brother J.E. Dillard of Texas, as well as seven grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank Lake County Tribal Health staff and doctors, Hospice Services of Lake County, and Redwood Medical Regional Center staff for the wonderful care they provided in his final days.

In accordance with his wishes he was cremated with no formal services.  Instead, there will be a celebration of his life held at his daughter’s home on what would have been his 93rd birthday, Sunday, Feb. 16th, at 4240 Lakeshore Blvd., Lakeport, CA 95453.  Family and friends are welcome to attend.
