— Funeral service for Thurman L. Cavin, 93, of Chickasha, Oklahoma will be held Wednesday, July 3, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church.

Thurman was born December 13, 1919 in Lohn, Texas, the son of Lee Garrison and Bertha May (Neve) Cavin.  He died June 30, 2013 in Chickasha.  They moved to the Chickasha area in 1923.

Thurman graduated from Chickasha High School in 1937.  He and Virgie

Anglin were married January 1, 1943 in Chickasha. Thurman served four years active duty in the U.S. Army during. World War II from 1942-1946.  He entered the Army in the Tank Buster Unit.  He later applied for pilot service in the U.S. Army Air Corp.  He served with the 14th Air Force in China as a Transport Pilot.  He flew C-46 and C-47 type aircraft in the transportation of troops and cargo in the Chinese Theatre of Operations.  He supervised maintenance and servicing of aircraft and was responsible for a crew of five.  He also served in the 10th Air Force in China. He continued his service in the Air Force Reserve.

He retired at the rank of Lt. Colonel after 23 years of service.  Thurman worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 40 years.  During that time he worked as a City Carrier, Assistant Post Master and Rural Carrier.  He retired May 2, 1980.

He was an active member of the First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by: Parents, 3 brothers:  Don Cavin, Ron Cavin, and Dorman Othel Cavin

Granddaughter:  Sheri Cavin, Survivors include: Wife:  Virgie Cavin of the home, 3 sons: Alan Cavin and wife, Susan, of Colorado Springs, CO, Steve Cavin and wife, Cynthia, of Tahlequah, OK, Tom Cavin and wife, Brenda, of Noble, OK, 1 brother:  Truman Onial Cavin of Chickasha, OK, 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
