Funeral services for Dean W. McDaniel, of Chickasha, OK will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 21, 2014 in the Sevier Funeral Home Chapel.
Dean W. McDaniel was born November 8, 1926 in Chickasha, Oklahoma to John W. and Ruby (Lively) McDaniel. He passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2014 in Midwest City, OK at the age of 87.
Dean grew up in Chickasha and graduated from Chickasha High School in 1945. In high school he was their quarterback and team captain of the football team. He married his high school sweetheart, Helen Knight on February 11, 1945 in Anadarko, OK.
He served in the United States Army and was a boxer during his service. He started his own business in 1945 as a commercial and residential painter, and ran it for 67 years until 2012. There is hardly a landmark in Grady County that Dean did not paint during his career, including hospital, banks, churches, schools and government buildings.
Dean was referred to as “The Dean of Painters” because many painters got their start by working with him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ruby and John McDaniel; a son, Dean McDaniel, Jr. and an infant daughter, Beverly Sue McDaniel.
Dean is survived by his wife of 69 years, Helen McDaniel; a daughter, Linda Olsenius, of Salem, OR; a son, Kurt McDaniel and his wife, Mary, of Midwest City, OK; a sister, Mildred Staggs, of Estes Park, CO; three grandchildren: Julie Salisbury and her husband, Mike, of Portland, OR, Elizabeth Bailey, of Chickasha, OK, Chris Olsenius, of Salem, OR; six great-grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews.
Interment will be in the Roses Hill Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home, Chickasha, OK.
