Hetta Carroll Van Dyck

— Graveside service for Hetta Carroll Van Dyck, age 93 of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2014 in Fairlawn Cemetery.

Hetta Carroll was the fourth child born to Hetta Brown Carroll and Vancil K. Greer on June 21, 1920, in Lincoln, Nebraska. She died on April 20, 2014 in Chickasha.

She received her early education in Kingfisher, Oklahoma and graduated from Kingfisher High School in 1937. After attending her freshman year at Bethany College in Lindsberg, Kansas, she completed her qualifications for a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1942.

She and Charles Douglas Van Dyck, Jr., were united in marriage on August 1, 1942 in Kingfisher.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Douglas Van Dyck, Jr., her mother, father, brothers, Vancil K. Greer, II, Dr. Allen E. Greer and sister, Janet Brown Greer Coleman.

As an adult she was an active member of The First Christian Church of Chickasha serving as a Sunday School teacher many years and was also an elder and trustee as well as moderator of the board. In 2010, she was installed as Elder Emeritus. She also served as a member of the Board of Directors for The Oklahoma Christian Foundation.

Always interested in public school education she was PTA president in both Southwest and South Schools and served as Chickasha PTA Council president. She was a member of the Chickasha Public School Board of Education from 1975 to 1980, serving one year as president. Carroll was a founding member and served as the first president of The Chickasha Public School Foundation Board of Directors.

Carroll was a nine year member of Junior Social workers serving as president for one year. She was a member of DAR, serving in the various offices including regent. She was on the original founding committee for Mobile Meals and later delivered meals for that organization many years. She was a former member of Sorosis Study Club in which she became inactive after years of active membership. In 2005, she became a fifty year member of Chapter CR-PEO where she held many of the sisterhood’s offices as well as president. She served on the Board of Directors for Pro-Musica several years.

Carroll is survived by two sons, Charles Douglas Van Dyck III and his wife Sandra and Richard Greer Van Dyck and his wife Cindy; grandchildren, John and his wife Miriam Van Dyck, Christopher Van Dyck, Amy and her husband Matt Overstreet, Clark Douglas Van Dyck, and Anna Kate Van Dyck; step grandchildren, Tele Williams, Nathan Ramsey and his wife Sara; five great grandchildren, Sam and Sophie Van Dyck, Lily Louise, Stella and Elsa Carroll Overstreet; step great grandchild, Raylee Ramsey.

Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.
