Melvin Royce Ricks, Sr.

— Funeral services for Melvin Royce Ricks, Sr., of Blanchard, OK will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Blanchard Church of Christ. Family will receive friends at Sevier Funeral Home on Sunday evening, May 18th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Melvin Royce Ricks, Sr. went to be with the Lord dying at home, attended by his loving family, on May 14, 2014 at the age of 80. He was born July 4, 1933 in Grady County, Oklahoma to Loys and Ruth Ricks. He attended Middleburg Schools and graduated in 1951. On July 7, 1951, he married the love of his life, Alma June Ogle and Melvin and June remained happily married until his death. The union produced 2 sons, Melvin Jr. and Stephen Allen.

Melvin proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 23 years, risking his life through 3 tours of duty in the Vietnam War. He attained the rank of Captain, having entered as a non-commissioned officer.

After returning home from Vietnam, Melvin and his family settled on the family ranch in Middleburg, OK. His sons both graduated from Chickasha High School, and Melvin lived there with June until his death.

Melvin joined Modern Woodman Insurance as an agent and made insurance his first non-military career. He was a part of the Modern Woodman of Chickasha, OK for a number of years. He then joined John Deere Corp as an insurance agent and retired as a Vice President.

He was a longtime member of the Church of Christ in Blanchard, OK and was a true believer who loved the Lord with all his heart.

Melvin is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, June of Blanchard; 2 sons: Melvin, Jr and his wife, Cheryl, of Stockbridge, GA and Stephen and his wife, Linda, of Dibble, OK

He has 4 grandchildren, Gage and Tyler of Norman, OK; Brandon and his wife, Colleen, of Lafayette, LA and Brian and his wife, Carolyn, of Beeville, TX

He also has 4 great grandchildren, Kyle and Laycee of Beeville, TX and Kaitlynn and Hunter of Lafayette, LA

He is also survived by his brother, Fred of Ardmore, OK and several nieces and nephews.

Interment will be in the Ft. Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, OK at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, May 19, under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home, Chickasha, OK.
