Carla (Hertzog) Elam

— Funeral service for Carla (Hertzog) Elam, 42, Chickasha will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2014 in the Letitia Baptist Church, East of Lawton with Rev. Bubba Clark, Cross Timbers Church, Marlow,  and Russell Snow, Elgin,  officiating.

Carla passed away Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014 in Oklahoma City.

Burial will be in Letitia Cemetery, East of Lawton under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.

Carla was born Dec. 17, 1971 in Lawton to Don and Janie Hertzog.  She graduated from Lawton High School in 1990, and earned a Bachelor’s in Business Administration at Cameron University.  She married Rusty Elam on Oct. 16, 1993, and they had three wonderful children; Austin, Lynnsie and Cael.  In 1994 she was employed by UPS in Lawton, and in 2001 transferred to UPS in Oklahoma City and was eventually promoted to supervisor.  She was active in FFA showing pigs, steers and lambs.  She was a member of the state champion and runner-up National Champion Livestock Judging Team.  She was a competitive athlete, playing softball and basketball at Lawton High and softball at Cameron University.  Carla’s involvement in sports continued with her children, who were her life.  If she wasn’t at a wrestling tournament cheering on Austin or Cael, she was on the softball field coaching Lynnsie and her teammates to several softball national championships.  She positively impacted her own children’s lives and many softball players as well.

She is survived by her three children, Austin, Lynnsie and Cael Elam of the home, her mother Janie Hertzog, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Paula and Richard Hargrove and Shari and Russell Snow, brother and sister-in-law Donnie and Nadine Hertzog, nieces and nephews Dillon Hargrove, Kaylee, Alyssa, Tiffani and Berklee Snow, Hagen Hertzog, all of Lawton, cousins, special friends and her softball players.

She was preceded in death by her father, Don Hertzog, maternal grandparents Fred and Sarah Bardsher and paternal grandparents Carl and Pauline Hertzog.
