Memorial service for Curtis Alva Brooks, age 92 of Chickasha, will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 29, 2013 at the Epworth United Methodist Church. Dr. Rockford Johnson will officiate.

Curtis Alva Brooks was born the son of Luther Brooks and Annie S. Hollis Brooks on Feb. 9, 1921 in Purcell. He died on March 26, 2013 in Chickasha.

Curtis graduated from Pauls Valley High School in 1938 and graduated from Oklahoma A & M College (now Oklahoma State University) in 1942. He married Gwendolyn DeVere Brooks on April 2, 1941 in Stillwater. Curtis joined the United States Army and served as Honorary Major of Combat Operations and Training Staff Officer of the 276th Infantry Regiment. He received two Bronze Stars, a Silver Star during World War II and received a personal letter from President Harry S. Truman for his service.

After being discharged from the Army, he joined the First National Bank & Trust Company, Chickasha in 1954, as Assistant Vice President, then Vice President, President and CEO. He had been chairman of the board for the First National Bank & Trust, Chickasha, Cyril State Bank, and First Independent Bancorp, Inc. He also received a graduate degree in banking from SMU and served as a member of board of directors for Oklahoma Bankers Association for four years. In April of 2004, he received the 50 years in banking award from the OBA.

Curtis served as the United States Banking Ambassador for the Dwight D. Eisenhower People-To-People International Leadership Delegation; Grady County OSU alumni chairman; charter member of the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.; board member of Southwest Oklahoma Girl Scouts for 15 years; financial advisor for League of Women Voters in Oklahoma; Chickasha Chamber of Commerce board member and treasurer; Mr. Chickasha for one year; founding board member of the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma Foundation; past board of directors and president of the Chickasha Downtown Merchants Association; Grady County United Way; Chickasha’s first "Y" program; member of the First Church of Christ Scientist of Chickasha; past chairman of Black Beaver Council of Boy Scouts of America.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Annie Brooks; wife, Gwendolyn DeVere Brooks; son, Michael R. Brooks; daughter-in-law, Deanna King Brooks.

Survivors include granddaughter, Stephanie and Daren Connel and great grandchildren, Kenna, Michael, Jacob, and Tanner; son, Pat and Paula Brooks, granddaughters, Stacey Brooks and Jenifer Borsch, great grandsons, Elijah and Kristopher; granddaughter, Shelley Moore and Pete Moore, and great grandchildren, Winn and Lily; daughter, Nancy and Dale Smith, granddaughter, Melinda and Kyle Abrahams; step-granddaughter, Stacy and Brandon Golden; step-great grandchildren, Layton & Sadie; step grandson, Dale and Ashtyn Smith, step-great-grandchild, Campbell; daughter, Joyce and Bruce Murray, granddaughter, Melissa and Alan Schultz, great grandchildren, Amelia and Alexander; grandson, Ross Murray.

Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home. There will be no viewing. Following the service there will be a private family interment in Rose Hill Cemetery.

    A come and go ‘Celebration of Life’ will be held for Jacqueline Ann Bohannon, 77, of Duncan, Oklahoma on Saturday, May 3rd at the Southern Oaks Church of Christ in Chickasha from 2:00 – 4:00 pm.  Jackie was born June 18, 1936 in Allen, Oklahoma to the parents of Harold and Bea Hammonds.  She passed from this life to be with her Lord on April 10, 2014 after a prolonged illness.

    Clifford Franklin Williams, 98, of Minco was born November 6, 1915 at Minco, Oklahoma to Claude Custer and Viola Pearl (Pettis) Williams. He died Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at his home in Minco, Oklahoma.
        Services will be held on Friday, April 18, 2014, 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Minco. Reverend Bob Waitman and Reverend Bob Hines officiating. Burial, Evergreen Cemetery of Minco, Oklahoma under the direction of Huber-Reynolds Funeral Home in Minco.

    Funeral for Reva Mae Burlison,88, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, in the Southern Oaks Church of Christ. Andy Lashley will officiate and Brian Johnson will assist.
    Reva Mae Royal was the 7th of 9 children, born to Walter Scott Royal Sr. and Nellie Speer Royal. She was born in rural Harmon County, near Hollis, Oklahoma on September 23, 1925. She passed away on April 16, 2014, in Chickasha.
