Funeral service for Joe David Smith, age 60, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 31, 2007, in the McRay Funeral Home Chapel.

Joe David Smith was born the son of Howard W. Smith and Cleo Reid Smith on January 28, 1947, in Chickasha. He passed away on December 27, 2007, in Oklahoma City after a lengthy hard fought battle with cancer.

Joe resided with his parents in Clinton, Oklahoma, for a few years until they returned to Chickasha. He attended school in Chickasha from elementary school through high school graduating from Chickasha High School in 1965. He attended OCLA for one semester and the rest of his college education was in southern California. In March of 1966, Joe enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and was stationed at Camp Pendleton, California. After a tour of duty in Vietnam, Joe returned to Camp Pendleton until his discharge in June of 1969. At this time, Joe began working for Taylor Bus Company. He greatly enjoyed transporting the many disabled and handicapped children. Later Joe drove a transport truck for various companies throughout the west coast region. Joe then went to work for the United States Postal Service in southern California and later transferred to the post office in Oklahoma City where he retired with over twenty years service in December of 2004.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Cleo Smith.

Survivors include:

Sister: Kay Smith of Chickasha; Sister & Husband: Gayla & Sam Bailey of Ponca City; Nephews: Josh & Jacob Bailey of Edmond.

Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery. Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.
