VERA MAE CAMP-DOGGETT-REYNOLDS

Vera Mae Camp-Doggett-Reynolds, was the daughter of John Calvin Camp and Mary Olive Strawn Camp, was born December 27, 1912 and died September 10, 2007 at Southwest Medical Center.

They moved to Cyril, OK when she was a small child. There she lived and worked at the Brock Boarding House and graduated from Cyril High School. After graduation she moved to Whitesboro, Texas where she worked as a waitress at Rose’s Cafe’ owned by her Aunt Rose. There she met Robert L. (Bob) Doggett. While he served with the Army during World War II in Sicily, Vera went to Long Beach, California to work in the ship yards as one of Rosie Riveters. She returned to Cyril to take care of her mother during her illness. Returning to Texas she married Bob December 16, 1945. They moved to Dallas and later back to Cyril.

Bob was a truck driver hauling fruit and vegetables all over the United States and she was always with him. She loved to travel. They were in almost every state. After his untimely death in 1959 she married Leo D. (Rusty) Reynolds on August 5, 1967. Rusty passed away July 1, 1990.

She loved to work in her yard. She was always crocheting tops of hand towels to use in the kitchen. There is no telling how many towels and afghans she had crocheted over the years. Most were given as gifts to her family and friends. She also made lots of Italian cream cakes. She loved to write letters. She stayed in touch with her family and long time friends. She always wanted to know what was going on with all of us. She was our link together.

She is survived by her nieces: Jeanette Stamper-Worden of Ninnekah, OK; Margaret “Bunny” Camp-Wheeler, Houston, TX; Kathy Camp and husband Verlon Stidham of Chickasha, OK; Berta Lee Camp-Manuel of Killeen, TX; Edna Camp and husband Billy Skipper of Abernathy, TX; nephews: Woody and wife Lynette Stamper of Houston, TX; Johnny and wife Cherie Stamper of Tulsa, OK; Charles Camp of Chickasha, OK; David and wife Kim Camp of Cyril, OK; Harlin Peters of Eldora, Iowa; lots of great-nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.
