Helen Hunnicutt Covey passed away at 4PM on Friday, August 31st, 2007 in Hondo, Texas. She was born in Ninnekah, Oklahoma on August 16, 1915. Helen was married to Richard (Dick) Covey, who preceded her in death in 2000.

She grew up in Chickasha and attended Chickasha Public Schools, where she graduated at the age of fifteen. She then graduated from Oklahoma College for Women (OCW) with a degree in Foreign Languages. She won several academic awards and contests in Latin proficiency.

Helen worked in Washington, D.C. as an office manager and administrative assistant in Gadsden and Huntsville, Alabama for Sun Oil Co. and several other companies. Later, she worked as an administrative assistant to Senator James Allen of Alabama for twenty years. In every office where she worked, Helen was known for her efficiency, organization, and intelligence. Additionally, she was a strong Democrat who kept up with current events, as well as a shrewd businesswoman and a voracious reader. She and Dick retired to Fredricksberg, Texas and later to Llano, Texas.

She has two deceased twin brothers, Wayne and Zane Hunnicutt, both of whom were pilots in World War II. Zane Hunnicutt was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his service. Both brothers worked in the aviation industry in Oklahoma City for many years.

Helen is survived by her sister, Merlene Key, of Dallas, Texas (214-327-2748). She is also survived by her nephews and niece: Donald Hunnicutt of Amarillo, Texas; Larry Wood of Oklahoma City; and Linda Rushton of Norman. Her grandnephew, Matthew McClarin and his wife, Leti, took loving care of her over the past three years.

Graveside services will be held on September 15, 2007 at 1PM at the cemetery in Llano, Texas.
