Lady Chicks to play for regional title Saturday

— The Chickasha High School girls basketball team will play No. 7 Tahlequah for the regional championship today at 1:30 p.m. in Tahlequah.

The Lady Chicks got to the regional title game by beating Guthrie for the first time this year Thursday, after having lost to the Lady Jays twice in the regular season.

Tahlequah beat Coweta to advance to the final.

Both teams will advance to the area tournament, regardless of the result of today's game.

Tahlequah is 14-9 this season, and Chickasha is 12-11.

The Lady Chicks needed overtime to beat Guthrie on Thursday, and won by getting timely rebounds and free throws.

Last season, Chickasha was eliminated in the first round of regionals, so the Lady Chicks have improved no matter what happens going forward.

"We survived, we beat [Guthrie] at the right time, and we'll take it and move on," head coach Christy Edelen said. "We get to play Saturday and next week."

The area tournament locations will be determined at the conclusion of the regional tournaments.
