Wrestling, basketball, swimming near peak of season

— The Chickasha High School wrestling team beat Noble on Senior Night on Thursday at the Activity Center.

The Fightin' Chicks beat the Noble Bears 42-21, getting a win for the four seniors who competed on their home mat in a dual for the final time.

Jacoby Brown, David Eakers, Sam Richardson and Coy Richardson are Chickasha's four seniors this season.

The Chicks aren't completely done at home this season, as they will finish up the Chickasha Invitational Tournament on Saturday.

Chickasha boys lose in Altus

The Chickasha High School boys basketball team lost in the first round of the Shortgrass Invitational tournament in Altus on Thursday.

The Fightin' Chicks lost 63-59 to Lawton MacArthur. E.J. Golightly scored 22 points, and Joey Sylvester scored 21.

CHS swim aims for state times

The Chickasha High School girls swim team placed second in the meet at Duncan High School on Thursday.

The Lady Chicks finished just two points behind Shawnee.

The Chickasha boys team placed third.

Head coach Terri Gallaway said the team's focus is more on getting state qualifiers than winning team meets.

"We are swimming for times, or we would have beat Shawnee," Gallaway said. "Even though we can only score two swimmers in each event, their times count for state qualifying. I think I let five or more swim in some events."

Five Chicks are less than one second away from qualifying for state: Kale Nye, Russell Jobe, Andrew Ross, Madison Rivas and Caitlin Critchfield.

"They have a couple more chances, so state qualifying is far more important now than what place we are at a meet," Gallaway said.
