In a top-10 matchup in class B, Alex moved onto the state semifinals by winning over Davenport 38-20.
Alex senior running back Jose Ochoa broke loose, rushing for over 200 yards with three touchdowns.
Davenport was first to get on the board after a 35-yard pass from quarterback Hunter Reed to Kaycee Funk put the Bulldogs on the Longhorns' goal-line. They scored on the next play, but failed on the two-point conversion.
Alex tried to respond and had a good drive going all the way down to the Davenport one yard line. However, the Bulldog defense held firm and forced Alex to turn it over on downs with a goal-line stand.
A poor Davenport punt resulted in the Alex offense starting deep in Bulldog territory and eventually led to a nine yard touchdown run but Longhorn quarterback, Dalton Alcorn. Alex succeeded where Davenport could not with a two-point conversion to take the lead, 8-6.
Davenport answered with a touchdown of their own on a three-yard pass from Reed to Cade Harelson and the extra two-points gave the Bulldogs the lead again. Alex running back Ochoa quickly rectified that. He found a hole in the defensive line and juked his way to a 49 touchdown run followed by a successful two-point conversion.
Momentum swung completely behind Alex on the Bulldogs' next drive when their fumble was recovered by the Longhorns. Alcorn found Jacob Otey in the back of the end zone to give the home side a 24-14 lead before half.
Neither team scored until the 4:37 mark in the third quarter when Ochoa found the end zone once again, but Alex was unable to convert on the two-point conversion. Ochoa added another touchdown late in the third quarter. Davenport found the end zone with four minutes left in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough and Alex held on to win.
Alex (12-0) moves on to the semi-finals and will face Pond Creek-Hunter (11-1) in Stillwater, at 7:30 p.m. on November 29.
