Seventh heaven in Chicks' season finale

CHICKASHA — A rough season ended happily for the Chickasha boys, who bulldozed their way to a 7-0 win over Elgin at home behind five goals from forward Cole Young.

With the first goal coming as early as four minutes in, the Fightin’ Chicks were dominant from the start for their first and only district win of the 2014 season. Young seemed to score almost every time he touched the ball, supported by a midfield who were lethal in their passes. Cooper Mosley, who like Young is a junior, and Javier Willetts were particularly troublesome for the Elgin defense.

The Owls had Beau Spencer and Jax Taylor to thank for their source of offense, even if it didn’t produce much. Chickasha’s defense was first to loose balls more often than not, severely restricting Elgin’s time in their attacking third. On the flip side, they struck early.

Trevor Youmans had many solid headers as one of the Elgin center backs, but he’ll want to forget his first just four minutes into the game. A long free kick from Cooper Mosley curled in toward the Fightin’ Chicks attackers when Youmans, facing his own goal, intervened. The resulting header looped high over  Josh Webb and into the net.

Soon after, Chickasha doubled its lead through its own power. Another Mosley long ball out of midfield bounced awkwardly for Elgin defender Bradyn Sellars, who in the process lost Cole Young. The tall Chickasha forward sped past Sellars and put the ball to Webb’s near post. Not five minutes into the contest, Chickasha held a 2-0 advantage.

Elgin settled down, but Chickasha’s chances were more threatening. Magyver Boles latched onto Xavier Willetts’ long ball on the right, but pulled his shot wide to the far post. Later, Mosley turned from provider to near scorer when he beat the Owls back line on a long ball. He squared up in the middle, but his placed shot was saved by the quick reflexes of Webb.
