Drovers enter Sooner Athletic Conference tourney fourth

CHICKASHA — With the regular season wrapped up, the Drovers enter the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament as fourth seed.

“I’m pretty happy we got the fourth seed. It’s only the second time we finished the top four, so we are pretty happy,” head coach Mike Ross said.

The Drovers entered the conference picked to finish fifth.

The round-robin style tournament spans four days, with the first set of games on Wednesday and the SAC Championship game set for Saturday afternoon.

“The conference tournament is always tough but we are looking forward to the challenge,” Ross said. “We hope to play well and give ourselves a chance to win a conference championship.”

The Drovers (38-16) play in Pool A, which will take place at Oklahoma City University. USAO will take on fifth-seed Rogers State at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Thursday, also at 2 p.m., the Drovers play eighth-seed Mid-America Christian. On Friday at 6 p.m., USAO will play top-seeded Oklahoma City.

Pool B, which consists of second-seeded Lubbock Christian, third-seeded Oklahoma Baptist, sixth-seeded Wayland Baptist and seventh-seeded Saint Gregory’s, is hosted by OBU. The winner in each pool will play in the SAC Championship game at 1 p.m. Saturday in Oklahoma City.

The winner of the SAC Championship receives an automatic bid to the 2013 NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round. The rest of the schools will have to hope for an at-large bid to the national tournament.
