YMCA to host 5K run at Lake Chickasha

CHICKASHA —

The local YMCA is planning a 5K run on the second weekend in November to help raise money for its programs.

The Lake Chickasha Run on Nov. 9 will include a 5K Run, 5K Walk and a free One-Mile Family Fun Run for kids. Pre-race registration is now open and costs $20 per person, and the fee will be $35 on race day. The race is sanctioned by USA Track & Field, and awards will go to the top three men and top three women to finish.

"The purpose of the Lake Chickasha Run is to raise money for teen programs at the Chickasha Area YMCA," said Nathan Donald, executive director for the organization.

Donald said the YMCA plans to organize a Teen Council to offer opportunities in leadership through various programs. These will include a leadership club, teen nights, Youth in Government, band nights, poetry slams, Bible studies, and more.

"We are working to provide our teens a safe place to come and belong," Donald said.

Registration can be taken at the Chickasha Area YMCA, located at 725 W. Chickasha Ave. or online at signmeup.com/96061.
