Chickasha boys to face Southeast at state

— The Chickasha High School boys basketball team will become the fourth team in the program since 1970 to play in the state tournament when it plays Southeast tonight in Sapulpa.

The Fightin' Chicks (16-10) went 1-1 in Regionals, beating Tahlequah 53-50 and losing to Coweta 69-46.

In Areas, Chickasha beat Guthrie 60-46 and then upset Bishop Kelley 44-41 last weekend to advance to the state tournament.

Playing at Sapulpa High School in a late 8:30 p.m. game, the Fightin' Chicks will play the No. 3 team in class 5A, the Southeast Spartans.

Southeast hasn't lost yet in the playoffs, going through Northwest Classen, Capitol Hill and Carl Albert in the 5A West bracket to get to state.

The winner of the game will play the winner between Thomas Edison and Bishop McGuinness at the Mabee Center in Tulsa at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
