Rosenberg departs Alex for Jones job

Alex girls basketball head coach David Rosenberg has resigned from his post to take up the same position at Jones High School next year.

Rosenberg, who's third year with the team saw an area playoff appearance, said he made the decision to move closer to friends and family while also moving up to Class 3A.

"It's 10 percent basketball, 90 percent location," Rosenberg said. "It was an opportunity for me to get closers to my family and friends who all live in that area. And, I do want to move up."

Rosenberg leaves a program he saw to one of the best finishes in school history. With that and the three years in the job, it was obviously a difficult goodbye.

"It's always bittersweet," he said. "It was not easy looking them in the eye and saying that I'm leaving. There was a lot of emotion, more than I expected. It's hard to realize how much you really care for the kids until that's gone."

The Lady Longhorns will also be five seniors short next year, including at least three starters. But Rosenberg said he is confident and hopeful that the school will find a suitable replacement.

"They're going to find the best fit," he said. "I hope they find someone better than me, because that's what those girls deserve."
