Hillcats come out on top against Drovers

CHICKASHA — Rogers State was able to take both games against the Drovers in a Tuesday afternoon conference doubleheader at Bill Smith Ballpark.

After giving up some early runs, the Drovers grabbed two of their own in the bottom of first after pitcher Brooke McLeod doubled to center field score lead off hitter Katie Jirak and third baseman Ashley Rasovic.

The Drovers held the Hillcats off for three innings, while scoring one more of their own in the bottom of the fourth. McLeod, who was on second base after a single to start the inning, scored off an RBI single by Markie LaFerney.

But the fifth inning proved another strong one for the Hillcats, who won 11-3.

The second game started slower for both teams. RSU’s Candace Monigold hit a solo homer in the fourth inning for the first run of the game.

USAO responded with a run of its own in the bottom of the inning with a double by McLeod, scoring shortstop Taylor Smith to tie the game.

The Hillcats grabbed another three, however, before taking the game 4-1.

The Drovers were playing without starting second baseman Skyler Nichols, who was injured Saturday and is not expected to return this season.

The Drovers (8-6, 1-3) return to action with another home doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon beginning at 1 p.m. before finishing the series with Rogers State in Claremore on Thursday afternoon.
