Drovers take home both Sooner Athletic Conference honors

CHICKASHA — USAO swept the Sooner Athletic Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week honors after a strong doubleheader against Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College last week.

Morgan Bratcher, who threw a no-hitter, was named SAC Pitcher of the Week while teammate Taylor Smith was named SAC Player of the Week.

Taylor Smith

In the two games of the week, which were both shutouts, Smith batted .875, smashing the ball seven times in of her eight at bats.

In addition to scoring four runs — two in each game — she drove in nine other batters.

In one of the games, she stole three bases, which ties a school record for most stolen bases in a game.

For the season, Smith leads the team in hits with 12 and RBIs also with 12. She has scored eight runs and hit one home run so far this year.

Smith, the Drovers’ starting shortstop, is batting .444 on the season with an on base percentage of .516.

She is a physical education and business junior from Newcastle and the daughter of Eddie and Leann Smith.

Morgan Bratcher

Morgan Bratcher threw an 11-strikeout no-hitter in the Drovers’ first game against Hillsdale College last week. She was just one walk away from a perfect game.

She spent all five innings in the circle for USAO. In the second game, she pinch hit, driving in one run.

For the season, Bratcher (2-1) has an ERA of 1.62 and has struck out 20 batters.

She is a history and American Indian studies senior from Chickasha and the daughter of Ken and Jo Singleton.

The Drovers return to action at (4) Oklahoma City for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Thursday.
