Panthers edge Demons to take last semifinal spot

Friday schedule with story

AMBER — The hosts left it late, but Amber-Pocasset finally made it through to the semifinals of the Grady County Tournament 5-4 against Dibble in nine innings on Thursday night.

A back and forth game had to be settled in extra innings, where two more runs for the Panthers could not be matched. The win sets them up with another late start against Verden on Friday.

The first inning looked to be a statement for Am-Po as both Ethan James and Triston Herron put runs on the board. Herron came across from an RBI by Dylan Verser. It left the bases loaded, but the next three batters were retired.

Dibble bounced back to take a 3-2 lead only for Levi Scott to keep Amber alive with the game tying run late. They were in position to put the game away at the bottom of the seventh. With the bases loaded,  Tyler Waitman mistook a dropped ball by the catcher for a ball called by the umpire, he was thrown out at third and the Demons were never able to capitalize on the loaded bases.

After a quick eighth inning, Am-Po took the lead in the top of the ninth with runs by Herron and Scott. The Demons managed to score one run in the ninth from Jacob Singleton, but could never get the final run three of the next four batters struck out.
