Streak stretched to six for Chicks against Carl Albert

CHICKASHA — Winning hasn’t come easy for Chickasha, and after a 62-36 defeat against No. 4 Carl Albert, it hasn’t come in a month.

Monday night’s make-up game made it six losses for the Lady Chicks since their Jan. 17 win over Noble. Of course the likelihood of a win against a Lady Titans team that has won five of its last seven wasn’t high, but it doesn’t make the loss any easier to take.

Jordan Gilbert’s 21 points led Carl Albert in the big win, which takes them to 17-4 as the season winds down. She was hard to stop inside, and on the flip side contributed to a Lady Titans defense that was difficult to break down.

As the second half went on, Taylor Sylvester found more and more room inside and took advantage to lead No. 10 Chickasha (6-12) with 12 points. Fellow sophomore Dominique Golightly put in seven points, brought down seven rebounds and got five assists.

Carl Albert started to edge away as the first quarter ended, leading 12-7. Sylvester made working inside difficult, but when she had to exit the game after picking up two quick fouls, Gilbert started sinking shots more regularly.

She had 13 by halftime, and the Lady Titans were big on defense. They implemented a full-court press later in the first quarter to essentially prevent Chickasha from any consistent offense.

It's a quick turnaround for Chickasha, who will now face Durant at home on Senior Night Tuesday inside the Chickasa Sports Arena. Varsity tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
