Chicks come back to beat Elgin

Chickasha has been trailing in games as of late, but with many of their young players stepping up the Chicks took a 9-6-clutch win from a struggling Elgin team.

Much like their trip to Marlow last week, the Fightin' Chicks were trailing their first game in a double-header in Elgin Monday night.

With the Chicks down 6-4 in the top of the seventh, Elgin’s pitcher couldn’t find the strike-zone and walked Luke Dixon and Brooks Bush with two outs. Brandon Shumway stepped up to the plate and took advantage of Elgin’s struggling pitcher and got a base hit to score the tying runs to cause the game to go into extra innings.

In coming freshman Brock Henderson ended the game with a solid hit, scoring 3 runs to complete the comeback win.

“We’re starting to figure out what a team is," assistant coach Blake Taylor said. "We didn’t just have one particular guy do everything for us. It was a really good team effort and a good team win."

The second game of the double-header didn’t go the full seven innings and ended in a 7-7 tie.

The summer season may be coming to a close, but the Fightin' Chicks coaches have said they witnessed a lot of things they liked over the course of the summer and look forward to the spring.
