Chickasha basketball to play in Bixby

— The Chickasha High School boys and girls basketball teams have both made the area tournament for the first time since 2001, and will stay on the east side of the state for the next round of games.

The boys team lost 69-46 to Coweta in the regional championship Saturday, and will play Guthrie at 8 p.m. Friday  in area.

The Lady Chicks lost 68-63 in the regional championship to Tahlequah, and will play Thomas Edison at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Bixby.

Both teams are in a single-elimination situation, but can make the state tournament by winning their next two games. The boys would play at Sapulpa on Saturday if they win, and the girls would stay in Bixby.
