Chickasha athletes enter track regionals on the back of some of their best performances this season, a welcome trend as they join the race for state.
"This is exactly what we want heading into regionals," coach Nancy Waters said after the girls competed in the conference meet last weekend.
Among the top competitors is sophomore Hanna Fergason, who took first at Conference in the long jump with a best distance of 17' 8.5". That performance leaves Fergason first in the state in her signature event and with the best chance of representing Chickasha at the state meet.
Fergason also placed fourth in the 300 hurdles in a time of 50.42.
Sarah Sladek placed third in the high jump with a 4' 8" effort at conference. Jaycie Brown took fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 27.89. She and Tania Davis, who will run the 400 meters, stand a good chance of qualifying for the state meet, Waters said.
The 400 relay team placed third in 50.99 seconds at conference, while the 800 relay finished in 1:49.72 at conference. Waters said she also believes those relay teams will qualify for state, but they must run their best come Saturday.
The regional meet takes place at Deer Creek High School.
