Chicks sending strong roster to state meet after regionals

— The Chickasha High School girls track and field team finished sixth and the boys eighth at the regional track meet in Norman on Saturday, qualifying in five events and earning three additional qualifiers.

Qualifying for the state tournament were the girls 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams, the boys 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams, Shaq Oliver in the high jump, Kyle McNatt in the long jump, Chelci Oliver in the 100-meter dash and Hannah Fergason in the 300-meter hurdles.

The girls 4x100 team qualified by finishing third at regionals, posting a time of 51.67 in the finals. The 4x200 team was also third, finishing in 1:52.83.

The boys 4x200 team placed third with a time of 1:34.04.

Oliver scored jumps of 6 feet and 6 feet 2 inches in the high jump to finish second in the event Saturday.

Long jumper McNatt jumped 20 feet 9 inches and 10 feet 11.75 inches to finish second.

Chelci Oliver finished fourth with a 13.16 in the finals of the 100-meter dash to qualify for state.

Fergason was fifth in the 300-meter hurdles with times of 49.79 and 50.86.

Chickasha's 4x100 relay team was fifth with times of 44.46 and 44.55.

The top three finishers in each event at regionals qualify for the state meet, and the next four best performances from fourth, fifth and sixth place finishers from all the regionals also qualify.

The 5A state track meet will take place May 10-11 at Yukon High School.
