The Tuttle High School wrestling team has a big lead in class 4A at the state tournament in Oklahoma City, with seven wrestlers in the finals and five more in the consolation semifinals.
The Tigers’ 170-pound senior Zachary Beard will attempt to become a four-time state champion Saturday, and he is joined in the finals by teammates Blake Dauphin (113), Dayton Garrett (120), Gunner Laffoon (132), Dakota Head (145), Dustin Mason (220) and Nathan Jackson (285).
All 12 Tuttle wrestlers who made the state tournament won their first-round matches and Noah McQuigg (106), Seth Shelton (152), Austin Elam (160), Riley Fielder (182) and Wesley Boatman (195) still have a chance to place third or fourth.
For Blanchard, undefeated junior Braden Stringer (160) will wrestle Gage Stallworth of Cushing in the finals.
Stringer pinned Dylan Nichol of Glenpool and beat Madill’s Luke Chapman by major decision to get to the championship match.
Consolation semifinal matches begin at 10:30 a.m., and consolation final matches are scheduled to start at 12:45 p.m.
The final matches in each weight class are scheduled to begin at 5:45 p.m.
State Fair Arena is located at 3001 General Pershing Blvd. in Oklahoma City.
