The 3A state champion Blanchard Lions began their quest to repeat the title this season with a 46-14 win over Bethany on Friday.
A big 20-point second quarter put Blanchard over the top in their big win, while the defense kept Bethany off the board in both the second and third quarter. Running back Braden Stringer and quarterback Blake Owen ran circles around Bethany, with Stringer racking up 201 yards and two touchdowns while owen contributed 154 and a couple of touchdowns of his own.
Bethany struck first with a touchdown in just three minutes, but Blanchard quickly answered. Stringer got his first of the night with an eight-yard run to the end zone. The Lions' defense then got in on the scoring action by forcing a safety to give the home team a 9-7 lead.
Owen then showed off his running ability with a 50-yard jaunt into the end zone with eight minutes left in the first half. Stringer then got his second of the night with another run, and Owen then showed off his arm with an 18-yard pass to Wyatt Bonds at the very end of the second quarter to give Blanchard a 29-7 lead.
Owen broke off a 72-yard run for his second touchdown to start the third quarter, before Jalan Daniels ran back an interception of 14-yards to make it a true rout.
A Blake Barker field goal was the final nail in the coffin for Blanchard. They take on Linsday away from home this Friday.
