The Chickasha High School girls soccer team was dealing with a situation Tuesday it didn't face last season: recovering from a midseason loss.
The Lady Chicks handled it well, recovering from Monday's loss at Noble with a 4-0 home win over the Duncan Lady Demons at Hampton Field on Tuesday.
Tara Arnold scored one goal, Hannah Elrod scored two on penalty kicks, and Kelsey Taylor scored the fourth as Chickasha improved to 7-1-1 this season.
"They learned what it felt like to actually lose, pretty much," head coach Bethany Goble said. "Sometimes losing is good. It puts us in our place and shows us what we're made of."
Last year, the Chickasha girls lost an early season game to Carl Albert, and didn't lose again until the playoffs when they played the Lady Titans again.
This year, the Lady Chicks lost the season-opener to Carl Albert by penalty kicks, then won their next six games, including the Chickasha Invitational tournament.
"Noble was a team with some girls that went unnoticed last year, and I knew it was going to be a tough match, playing away on turf," Goble said. "Our girls just weren't ready for it."
Now that the team has had a wake-up call, it will work to build its confidence back up without getting overconfident.
"We're still pushing through it, obviously," Goble said. "I don't want them too confident, because that's what came out and hurt us. We're pushing through it, and hopefully Friday we'll get another win."
The Lady Chicks will play Western Heights at 5 p.m. Friday at Hampton Field. It will be the team's last home regular season game, and they will celebrate senior night.
Chickasha has four seniors: Hannah Elrod, Kelsey Taylor, Casey Black and Myka Miller.
