Chickasha soccer teams in winners bracket

The Express-Star

CHICKASHA — The Chickasha High School boys soccer team played the defense it needed Friday against Elgin, opening the way for Cole Young's go-ahead goal in the second half of the Fightin' Chicks win.

"As I say, if you don't have the offense, you've got to have good defense," Parkinson said. "The boys are doing well and learning every day. They really are getting better."

In a physical game that featured several yellow cards and minor altercations between players, Chickasha came out on top 1-0 over the Owls to move into the winner's bracket of the Chickasha Invitational.

"Every time we play Elgin it's just like a dogfight" head coach Scott Parkinson said. "A few results where we lost this year, we haven't been up to that dogfight. We haven't really been outplayed, we've just been out-battled."

Parkinson said the history between the two teams contributed to some of the physical play.

"We tried to light a fire under them today because our girls came out flat yesterday, and on paper our girls are a much better  team than Elgin," Parkinson said.

The Chickasha girls won over Elgin 2-0 on Thursday, and will play at 11 a.m. Saturday against Harrah, which beat Bridge Creek in the first round.

Kelsey Taylor had two unassisted goals in the game, and had six shots on goal. Hannah Elrod had three shots on goal, and Casey Black had three saves.

The boys game will immediately follow the girls game at 12:30 p.m., against the winner between Classen SAS and Madill.
