Lady Chicks smash Spartans in season opener

In what seems like the best start possible to the fast pitch season, Chickasha ran out easy winners over Southeast High School in a double-header to open the season at home yesterday evening.

Without giving up a single run, the Lady Chicks also showed their dominance offensively, winning the first game 13-0 in just three innings while also run ruling the Spartans in the second game by 12-0. It was a powerful statement made by Chickasha, who are among the favorites to go all the way in the state title race this year.

In the first game, the onslaught was relentless from the beginning, with Chickasha taking a 4-0 lead out of the first inning. Tawn Neidy's lead-off triple was only a sign of things to come as Shorty Clift brought her teammate around with an RBI double. Three more hits brought in three more runs as it was evident Southeast would experience a very long evening in the hot, sticky weather.

The second inning brought the most offense from the Lady Chicks, as six hits brought in a whopping nine runs to put the game well beyond reach. All but two Chickasha players scored at least once.

Neidy went 1-for-1 with three runs on the night, as she was also hit by a pitch twice. Clift had a spotless game, going 3-for-3 with two runs and 4 RBI. Keeley Cauthen went 2-for-2 with two runs and 2 RBI, and Amanda Bradford was 1-for-2 at the plate with a run and 2 RBI.

Kelsi Gore went 1-for-3, scored a run and had an RBI on her only hit; however, it was on the mound where the number one starting pitcher did the most damage. While walking two, Gore gave up just one hit and struck out four batters on her way to the shutout win.
