Lady Chicks soccer show no mercy

CHICKASHA — The Chickasha High School girls soccer team didn't need the whole 80 minutes to take care of Western Heights on Friday night.

The Lady Chicks won 10-0, with the game ending by mercy rule with 5:21 left to play, as Hannah Elrod scored the final goal.

Elrod, among the seniors honored during the final home game of the year, scored all three of Chickasha's second-half goals and had five overall. She was named homecoming queen after the game.

Freshman Tara Arnold scored two goals in the first half before leaving the game with a leg injury with 10:21 in the first period.

Kelsey Taylor, Caitlyn Lee and Taylor Lessig had one goal each, and Alyssa Willetts had three assists. Haley Black and Taylor had one assist each.

The boys had the task of taking on No. 2 undefeated Western Heights in the second game.

Chickasha hung with the Jets for the entire first half, going down 1-0 early but tying the game on a long goal by Devin Warden with 4:03 in the first half.

Western Heights turned up the attack in the second half, however, and scored four goals in a row, three of them coming in the first 17 minutes of the half.

Chickasha responded with a penalty kick goal by Cooper Mosley with 9:54 left, but Western Heights put up two more goals before the game ended to beat the Chicks 7-2.

The Chickasha soccer teams will travel south to Durant to play the Lions at 5 and 7 p.m. today.
