Chicks lose in Wood Bat Final to bogey team Blanchard.

What has become an all too familiar scene for Chickasha baseball played out once again Monday night when the Fightin' Chicks succumbed to local rivals Blanchard 5-1 in the Wood Bat Playoff final.

Once again, Chickasha couldn't get the best of Blanchard. No team has given the Chicks a tougher time this summer, as the Lions have won all four times the teams have squared off.

The Chicks beat Mustang 7-4 earlier in the day to set up a second showdown against Blanchard in the Wood Bat tournament.

The Lions got the bats going early, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning to take the early 2-0 lead. Neither team showed any more offensive prowess until Luke Dixon hit a single in the bottom of the fourth inning. He proceeded to steal second and advanced home on an error committed by Blanchard's infield.

Chickasha then give up two runs in the top of the fifth inning, which Chickasha head coach Brad Gore proved to be the crucial difference in the game.

“Giving up those two unearned runs in the fifth was big. We knew it would be hard to scratch runs across, it took us out of our game,” Gore said.

Blanchard hit a solo homerun to left-center field in the bottom of the sixth inning to apply the final blow to the Fightin' Chicks.

Even though Chickasha came up short, Coach Gore was impressed with the way his team performed in the tournament.

‘We’re making strides, and that’s what I want,” Gore said.

Chickasha looks forward and heads to Marlow on June 27 and then plays at home against Binger on June 28.
