Chickasha baseball splits opening Wood Bat games

The summer league tournament, known as the Wood Bat Playoffs, kicked off this past Saturday for the Fightin’ Chicks, as they split the day with a 12-2 win over Putnam City West and a tough 8-0 loss to a talented Blanchard squad.

In game one against Putnam City West, Chickasha was clicking on all cylinders both on offense and defense. The game started off slow for both teams with the score being deadlocked at 1-1 going into the bottom of the third inning. But once Chickasha started getting the bats going, there was no stopping the Chicks who were looking to make a statement in this tournament.

Game two didn’t go as well for Chickasha as game one did.

“We got behind and couldn’t ever recover. We could’ve thrown in a few other guys and maybe had a little different outcome, but we wanted to put in the younger guys that didn’t have a lot of varsity experience and give them an opportunity,” said Coach Gore
