Tuttle splits district round with Bethany

TUTTLE — The Bethany girls won a back-and-forth game against the Tuttle Tigers 45-42 Friday night.

Lexi Smith scored her only points of the second half with a late three point shot which gave the Broncos the lead and the eventual win.

Bethany started the game off with a six point lead early in the first quarter. Riley Brown scored 8 of her 10 points in the first quarter. The Tigers left Brown open on the three point line and fouled her under the basket.

Tuttle came back in the second. Peyton Garrett and Madison Brian hit a pair of three point shots late in the third to help close the gap to just one point by halftime, and in the third quarter the Tigers took their first lead. Both teams played a physical third quarter not allowing any easy shots, but more of the Tigers’ shots were falling. The defensive aggressiveness for Bethany was more intense in the second half, especially in the final quarter which helped the Broncos regain their lead.

“We had talked about it all week” head Coach Carol Beall began. “We had some things not going our way in the first half, but the girls could finally see what was going on and we got some momentum going.”

The fourth quarter was a back and forth shoot out with multiple lead changes. Brookly Judkins, who lead the Broncos in scoring with 18 points, scored a three point shot early in the fourth and managed to make three out of her four free throws. Maddie Himmons who scored 12 points in the game scored a three point shot late in the fourth and made all of her free throws.

Tuttle girls now enter the consolation bracket of regionals.
