Ninnekah splits games at home to Cement

NINNEKAH —

The Ninnekah girls won a tight battle against Cement, while the Bulldogs bulldozed over the boys.

Erin Cheek's 17 points helped the Lady Owls to a 41-31 win against Cement (2-14) on Tuesday. Her effort was almost undone by a late Cement surge, but Ninnekah (9-9) did enough to see out the game.

Scoring stayed relatively low until the final frame, when the Lady Owls went up by their largest margin. It was in response to the Lady Bulldogs outscoring their hosts in the third quarter. Sadie Higgins led the effort with a game-high 19 points and seven rebounds.

Ninnekah's dominance down low, with 21 points int he paint, was a big contributor to the win. The Lady Owls also ran the floor better on the night, with 10 points off fast breaks.

The Owls were not able to replicate the girls' effort as Cement ran rampant in their 74-38 win. Michael Evans had the game-high 21 points, while River Mink was also into double-digit figures with 18.

Cement (4-11) scored 28 points off of 25 Ninnekah (6-12) turnovers. That and 48 points in the paint kept the Bulldogs firmly on top. The biggest change came in the second quarter, when Ninnekah was held to just five points and Cement piled on 24.

Zack Cox was the bright spot for the Owls with 10 points off the bench, while Clay Chaney had eight. En route to his game high, Evans sank three-of-four from beyond the arc for Cement.
