CHICKASHA — The Chickasha boys exacted a bit of revenge against Noble on Friday, coming back from 10 points down to beat the Bears 60-56.

A second half surge gave Chickasha the win, avenging a loss they suffered at the end of December. Brock Henderson led the way with 19 points for Chickasha. Brandon Shumway added 12, including a few important three pointers, and Colten Christian also hit from long range to end up with 10 points.

It was a back-and-forth game in the first quarter, with Chickasha just grabbing the edge. Leland Palmer got a few quick jumpers to start things off for Noble. The towering figure of Jalal Gondal, 6’ 4”, was not as active as expected in the first half, with only four points. A high pressure defense forced Noble into some sticky situations, keeping Chickasha well in the game.

They took the lead as the first quarter ended. Taray Thomas knocked down a three pointer before Chris Nottingham made a steal at half court on the ensuing inbounds play. He found Henderson in the left corner, whose shot from beyond the arc went in to put Chickasha up 18-16.

Noble then got hot from three point land ahead of the break. Houston Kruze sank a couple from outside, including one to tie the game 23-23, to go with the shooting of Austin Echols. He led with 10 points at halftime, the same as Noble’s lead by the time two quarters were done, and finished with just 12.

With Chickasha misfiring on their jumpers, Cole Young made up for that. His work down low earned them a quick six points. That was capped by a three from Henderson for a 9-2 run that brought Chickasha within three points. Palmer – who ended with a game-high 20 points, was still hitting his shots, and as the quarter came to an end he sank a three to keep Noble up 45-39.

The Fightin’ Chicks mounted their comeback in the fourth. A three from Shumway gave them a 47-45 lead with five and a half to play. Christian followed up with this second of the game from beyond the arc. That left him with 10 points for the game and had Chickasha in the ascendancy. They were able to take their time, forcing Noble to foul. The Chicks made their shots, and ran out with a comeback win.
