Ramsey grabs third at JH state; Del City to host HS regionals

Chickasha seventh grader Ryder Ramsey placed third at the Junior High State Tournament on Saturday.

Ramsey wrestles at 92-pounds and earned the right to represent Chickasha at state by placing first in the 92-pound Division 4 at the Southern Regional Tournament in Lawton. He fell out of the state championship race by a close decision in the semifinals, but he won twice to place third at the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds.

Montana Moon (80-pounds) and Hobie Stephens (58-pounds) also placed first at regionals for Chickasha to reach state. Jaxon Randle (37-pounds) and Canaan Brummett (40-pounds) placed second in the youth regionals.

The Fightin' Chicks high school team will not be competing in the Class 5A Dual State tournament this weekend, but they will be sending wrestlers to Del City a week later at the Regional Tournament.

Chickasha will face wrestlers from Ardmore, Carl Albert, Duncan, Lawton-MacArthur, Piedmont and other schools during the tournament that spans Feb. 21-22. Senior Josh Latham will begin his journey to his second state title in two years, this time at the 195-pound weight class.

The State Tournament will be held at the OKC Fairgrounds the following weekend.
