Streak ends in Chicks-Elgin double-header

A five game winning streak for the Fightin’ Chicks was brought to a halt at home in a double-header against Elgin Tuesday night, when Chickasha took the first game 5-4 but were shut out in the second 3-0.

It is an unfortunate end to the summer regular season for Chickasha, but they will get a chance to end baseball on a high when they host at least six other teams in a tournament starting July 9.

Chickasha stayed balanced through the whole of game one, scoring a run in the first inning, two in the third, and two in the fifth. The Owls answered with two runs in the second and late in the sixth.

Behind Brooks Bush's clutch pitching late in the game, Elgin was prevented from stealing the win.

Incoming freshman Jake Womack got it going at the plate, hitting 2-for-3 with two singles and a run.

“Overall, I was pleased with the way the guys played in game one," assistant coach Blake Taylor said. "Brock [Henderson] pitched good. His last two starts have been the best two starts he’s had all summer."

In game two, Chickasha would not score. Levi Kell got the only Chickasha hit with a double in the fifth.

Senior second-baseman Luke Dixon expects for him and his team to return to the state tournament in the spring after they achieved the height earlier this year.

“I expect us to be back where we were if not better," Dixon said. "We have several young players, but they have talent. I know we’ll be back in the state tournament again."

Incoming freshman slugger Jake Womack agrees and will be looking toward senior members of the team to lead the way.

“If we get good leadership out of our two seniors, I think we’ll be alright,” Womack said.
