Alex boys, girls win in Longhorn Classic

— The first two days at the Alex Longhorn Classic basketball tournament are over, and the host team won on both the boys' and girls' sides of the bracket.

The Lady Longhorns beat Ninnekah 62-31 on Tuesday in the first round. Alex will play Stratford at 6:40 p.m. tonight, and Ninnekah will play Fox at 6:40 p.m. Friday, after Stratford beat Fox 56-9 in the opening round.

Empire beat Paoli, and Cement defeated the Stratford junior varsity squad 55-12 in the other first-round games. Empire will play Cement at 4 p.m. tonight, and Paoli will play Stratford JV at 4 p.m. Friday.

The Alex High School boys basketball team beat Stratford JV 54-37 on Tuesday, and will play Fox at 8 p.m. Friday. Fox beat Empire 43-27 in the first round.

The Ninnekah High School boys lost 57-44 to Cement, and will play Paoli at 5:20 p.m. tonight in the consolation bracket. Cement will play Stratford at 5:20 p.m. Friday. Stratford beat Paoli 88-41 in the first round.

Black Diamond Classic at Rush Springs

The Rush Springs High School girls beat Elmore City 56-39 in the first round, and play Velma-Alma at 7 p.m. tonight.

The Redskins boys lost 72-31 to Velma-Alma, and play Elmore City at 8:15 p.m. tonight.
