Local baseball, soccer tournaments begin Thursday

CHICKASHA — Two tournaments will be running Thursday through Saturday in Chickasha, the Washita Valley Classic baseball tournament and the Chickasha Invitational soccer tournament.

In what might be the busiest three days in the Chickasha spring sports season, games get started Thursday morning in the Washita Valley Classic with a 10 a.m. matchup between Cache and El Reno at Elliott Field.

Chickasha will play two games today, one against Western Heights at 4:45 p.m. and the second at 7 p.m. against Durant.

The Washita Valley Classic will feature 12 teams divided into two pools.

Pool A includes Chickasha, Cache, Lawton, El Reno, Durant and Western Heights.

Pool B consists of Mustang, Putnam City, Altus, Del City, Elgin and Heritage Hall.

Friday, Chickasha plays one game at 7 p.m. against El Reno.

Games will be played at 12, 2:15 and 4:30 p.m. at Elliott Field and at 11 a.m., 1:15 and 3:30 p.m. at the junior high field Saturday.

The top seed from each pool will meet in the title game at 4:30. Each team will play the team from the opposite pool with the same ranking Saturday.

Chickasha Invitational

Soccer games in the Chickasha Invitational start at 3 p.m., when the Lady Chicks will play Elgin at Hampton Field.

The Bridge Creek Lady Bobcats are the other county team in the tournament, and will play against Harrah at 6 p.m.

The Chickasha boys will play Elgin in Friday's first game at 3 p.m.

All semifinal, consolation, third and seventh-place games will take place Saturday in both the boys and girls brackets.

If the Chickasha girls win Thursday, they will play the winner of Friday's game between Madill and Guymon at 11 a.m. Saturday. If the Lady Chicks lose, they'll play the loser of that game  at 8 a.m. Saturday at Hampton Field.

Bridge Creek will play at 8 or 11 a.m. Saturday against Classen SAS or Duncan on the adjacent practice field.

The Chickasha boys will play at 9:30 a.m. if they lose and 12:30 p.m. if they win, and will face either Classen SAS or Elgin on Saturday.

The girls championship game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Saturday, and the boys championship game will follow at 8 p.m.
