Rising Reimers drawn to CHS by 'admiration' of teams

It's been a whirlwind couple of years for Kirk Reimers, capped recently by his appointment to take over the Chickasha girls basketball program starting in the 2014-15 season.

It was only in 2012 he came to the area to coach Amber-Pocasset, before he was quickly whisked away the following year to coach two classifications higher at nearby Bridge Creek. Now, the 25-year coaching veteran has achieved a new milestone, moving up to 5A with the Lady Chicks.

"This was also an opportunity to fulfill personal goals," Reimers said. "I wanted to coach in the larger classifications. I've always kept tabs on Chickasha athletics. I have a lot of respect and admiration for the program."

It's appropriate the paths of Chickasha girls basketball and Reimers should meet at this time, given both are on the rise. The Lady Chicks' visit to the state tournament, the first for the program in nearly two decades, was the result of four years of progress under outgoing coach Christy Edelen and assistant coaches Chad Beery and Miranda Edwards.

Coming from a year of progress at Bridge Creek is another way Reimers can relate to the current state of Chickasha girls' basketball.

"I was fortunate and blessed with the group that I inherited," Reimers said of his time with the Lady Bobcats. "We had a good group of girls to work with, and I see that at Chickasha. Obviously, making the state tournament was a great start. I just want to come in and continue that progress."

Reimers' time at Bridge Creek, he says, is marked by an alteration in the way the team played. It was like an experiment, implementing a more up-tempo style on both ends of the floor. It's the style Reimers says he enjoys.
