Yukon halts Tiger train in JV tourney final

In an up and down weekend in the Junior Varsity Red Dirt Playoffs, Tuttle dominated Westmoore early to earn the 6-3 semifinal win only to fall 9-1 to Yukon in the final.

The young Tigers are part of a Tuttle program with a growing reputation, and they showed why in the semifinal against Westmoore,

Tuttle started connecting with the ball early. The Tigers scored a run in the first inning only to set up a five run offensive burst in the top of the second inning. Brody Potts got the best of Westmoore’s defense and put on an offensive clinic, going 2-for-4 with a single, a double, and two RBI. Tuttle also got it done on the defensive side behind the pitching of Maverick Hiebert, who had three strikeouts and walked only one batter. Westmoore tried to keep up with the Tigers by scoring a run in the first inning and two in the second, but Tuttle’s lineup would prove to be too much for the Jaguars.

“We had a big inning, had some good hits, and bunted the ball real well. We played good defense and had our pitching to help us stay in the game,” said Tuttle head coach Travis Owen.

The final game of the Red Dirt Playoffs featured Tuttle and Yukon, who have both proven to be talented ball clubs.

Yukon showed its offensive production early scoring one run in the second inning followed by a seven run barrage in the third inning.

The Tigers were never able to recover and only managed one run in the fourth inning. Tuttle went through five pitchers in six innings, but it failed to throw off the Millers who had ten hits on the Tigers’ bullpen.

Owen said his team getting behind early was the difference between game one and game two.
