A back and forth contest ended with a 28-21 win on a night when Cade Morris was the go-to guy for the Fightin’ Chicks with over 100 yards of rushing and a hand in every touchdown.
The Chickasha defense also played a big role on the night, making crucial stops and some big sacks.
The duo of quarterback Karson Baker and running back Cal Baker created some problems early on for Chickasha. With a few screen passes thrown in, the Indians put together a 14 play drive and eventually set up the running back Baker for a two yard run in for the first touchdown of the night just six minutes into the game. Cal Baker would later go down injured in the second quarter and did not return.
Chickasha was close to answering on the following drive. Running back Josh Latham broke off a couple of big runs, including a 36-yard jaunt into Indian territory. Unfortunately for the Chicks, their drive stalled inside the El Reno 10 and it was turned over on downs.
They got another chance in the second quarter to even things up. Tresjon Davis made his first stamp on the game with a 12 yard catch and a 16-yard run to put Chickasha in the red zone once again. A pass from Morris to Lindbergh Carey on third down was just out of the wide receiver’s reach and another drop on fourth down meant two red zone trips with nothing to show for it.
Linebacker T.J. Filer made a few crucial stops for Chickasha to keep El Reno from moving on the next drive. Not only was he part of a big sack on Baker for a six yard loss, but he then tipped a pass to force the Indians to punt from deep and set up a short field for the Fightin’ Chicks.
