CHICKASHA — Thousands of toys were being wrapped for their Christmas delivery yesterday at John Holt Chevrolet in Chickasha.

The Sequoia Group, Chickasha Police Department and the Chickasha Fraternal Order of Police had representatives on hand to aid in the gift decoration.

"We get a list of kids and pick out three toys per kid," Officer Lauren Matthews said. "So far we've received $14,000 worth of donations."

Matthews said she started this annual event after she responded to a child abuse case last year.

"It took me a long while to get over it," she said. " We just want to help."

The event ends Christmas day when Matthews and representatives from the Bible Baptist  will provide warm meals to those in need along with the toys for the kids.
