A woman allegedly attempted to steal from the Chickasha Walmart on Thursday by selecting the same items that were on previous receipt, and trying to return the unpurchased merchandise.
Chickasha Police Officer Derek Hunt said he was called to the Walmart because Ashlee Barron supposedly attempted to steal items under false pretense and was pointed to Barron's car.
Hunt said he was told that Barron's passenger, Ruben Cantu, bought an ATV seat accessory, an ATV gun scabbard and a car cover from the store and gave the receipt to Barron, according to an incident report.
Barron went to the store, selected the same items, and returned the items at customer service using Cantu's receipt, according to the report.
"[The asset protection employee] advised me that the employee working the customer service desk, Ashley Campbell, issued Barron a gift card valued at $238.17 for the unpurchased items," Hunt said. "The act that Ashlee completed effectively caused Walmart to repurchase their property."
When Campbell gave Barron the gift card, she seemed upset that she received the card instead of cash, according to the report.
"Campbell told me that Barron told her that she wanted to repurchase the items using the gift [card] that was just…issued to her," Hunt said. "Campbell said she complied and sold the previously returned items back to Barron."
Hunt said she left the store after buying the items back and he asked her to remove the items from her car and found the car covers, seat accessories and gun scabbards in the backseat.
Barron was arrested for taking items from the store under false pretense and hiding stolen merchandise and taken to the Grady County Jail.
