Te Ata Fisher statue dedication set for tomorrow at USAO

CHICKASHA — The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma will host a dedication ceremony for the bronze statue of Te Ata Fisher at 10 a.m. tomorrow in front of Troutt Hall.

Te Ata Fisher, formerly Mary Thompson, became an acclaimed actress and storyteller after graduating from the Oklahoma College for Women, now USAO, in 1919, according to a university press release.

Fisher was designated the first "Oklahoma Cultural Treasure" in 1987 and was inducted to the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 1957 and the Chickasaw Nation Hall of Fame in 1990.

Congressman Tom Cole, who is Fisher's great nephew, USAO President John Feaver and Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby, among others, will speak during the dedication.
