Police were called about a fight at a convenience store in which a man allegedly chased a minor with a steel baton yesterday.
Chickasha Sgt. Jeremy Alexander said he responded to the call about a fight between Dylan Palmer and a 15-year-old at the Munchies and More convenience store and found the baton concealed in Palmer's pant leg.
"During our conversation, Palmer admitted to confronting [the boy] thinking that [the boy] had tried to fight him in the past," Alexander said. "Palmer also said [the boy] ran from him…[and] Palmer left [the boy] alone because he ran."
Palmer went to a restaurant, then quickly left and got his baton from the car to chase the boy to the Munchies and More parking lot, according to the incident report.
"Palmer said he was only going to talk to [the boy]," Alexander said. "While speaking with Palmer, his story changed several times. Palmer said he had the baton out 'playing with it' and never expanded it. However, based on numerous accounts from other witnesses,…Palmer expanded the baton as if to use it."
The boy told Alexander he didn't previously know Palmer, but Palmer almost hit him while driving earlier and confronted him, according to the report.
"[The boy] said Palmer came after him in the parking lot of Munchies and More then pulled out a baton," Alexander said. "[The boy] stopped running from Palmer and picked up a board off the ground. Other people traveling down the street broke up the altercation."
Palmer was arrested for unlawfully carrying an offensive weapon and taken to the Grady County Jail.
