CHICKASHA — After the tragic death of 17-year-old Matthew Hoskins, resulting from a car accident in January 2011, the 2nd annual golf tournament will be held in his honor at 8 a.m. on Oct. 6 at the River Bend Golf Course in Chickasha.

"The tournament is an honor of my little brother Matthew," Zach Divine said. "We provide a scholarship fund for one boy and one girl athlete at Chickasha High School."

Matthew Hoskins was killed in a car accident in January 2011.

"My brother was active in sports," Divine said. "He played basketball and was going to try out for golf his senior year."

In addition to competing in the golf tournament, the participants have to write an essay that is reviewed by Matthew's mother.

"It's going to give my mom the opportunity, every year, to interact and stay involved with young kids," Divine said. "She already had that 'my kids are all grown up' moment."

Divine lives in Joplin, MO but plans the annual golf tournament from a distance. He hopes the turn out will be as good, if not better than last year.

"It's tough to plan because I live far away," Divine said. "But last year we had six teams and we're hoping to get around the same number, or more."

According to Divine, the tournament's aim is to keep Matthew's name alive.

"He was the type of kid who's personality lit up the room," Divine said. "He was my younger brother of eight years, but we were always messing with our two sisters. We were always the pranksters."

The River Bend Golf Course is located at 1156 County Road 1346. If you have any questions you can contact Zach Divine at 417-437-0429 or e-mail mwhmemorial@gmail.com
